It's a good thing, then, that the systemd developers do justify their technical choices.

Just one example of systemd developers explaining their technical choices: https://lwn.net/Articles/436012/. The explanation was good enough to make me go from "what an ugly change" to "it makes a lot of sense" (see my comment at https://lwn.net/Articles/436072/), and the change itself was so good that even distributions which were not using systemd adopted it.

There are many more like that one, starting with the very first few blog posts announcing systemd.
