What a silly move, especially given that it occurs several weeks before the Jessie freeze, and it would result into increased maintainer burden, but there's no plan for providing the adequate amount of maintainer time...

systemd clearly isn't perfect, but sysvinit is no longer enough, upstart is worse than systemd (that's what I learnt in the previous episode), and nearly all other distros switched to systemd without plans of switching back to anything else, so it's not desirable to diverge from other distros.
As for other kernels... well, debian-kfreebsd and debian-hurd are nice experiments, but they're not release architectures due to persistent lack of both functionality and manpower, so why bother right now, before maintainers of other kernels improve them to provide more functionality ?

As a Debian user making software that runs on Debian as part of my day job (and doesn't run in Wheezy because it would need way more backports), I really hope DDs will punt this GR...
