Downscaling is the sledge hammer of Anti-Aliasing. Any game will work with it, and the results are gorgeous, but you'd better have a really powerful graphics card.

You do have to be careful with downscaling - if the UI/HUD is drawn by the game expecting every pixel to be visible (e.g. use of small fonts) it can easily become unreadable when downscaled. If the UI/HUD is already being scaled by the game to a percentage of the display or a fixed physical size it should be fine.
