Basically implementing GL_ARB_compatibility yourself it seems to me.

well implementing bits of it, the problem with ARB_compatibility is it contains a lot of other stuff that doesn't affect virgil, like legacy vertex interfaces etc.

there are probably going to be a few things I never implement, like two sided lighting emulation. (though it might be possible in the guest).
