Kernel release status

The current development kernel is 3.17-rc4, released on September 7 after a week that, at least toward the end, was characterized by Linus as "pretty normal." "'Pretty normal' isn't bad, though, and I'm not complaining. There is nothing particularly big or scary going on - we had a quick scare about a stupid compat layer bug, but it seems to have been just a false positive and resulted in some added commentary rather than any real code changes."

Stable updates: 3.16.2, 3.14.18, and 3.10.54 were released on September 5. The backlog of stable patches is said to be large at the moment, so expect more (large) updates in the near future.
