I have put a few things into /etc/rc.d/rc.local
conditional on booted kernel name, and a few other things,
but not chrooted, wondering what needful thing might I
make inaccessible.

Is there a way to get something like a dmesg/ftrace log for the
entire boot process up to presentation of console login prompt?

I'd like to see exactly what was accessed and how.

Also how the comparable trace would look under the proposed system.

Dependency management depends on proper dependency resolution - sadly, that's a lost cause in most distributions (with one notable exception).

Notably, Lennart is used to Red Hat - enough said about the problems of running any software requiring multiple third party repositories ... :(
