I would like to point out that this blog post, althoug often referenced, is a quite one-sided view of one ffmpeg developer. If you ask people on the libav side, they will tell you a different story.

Reconsidering ffmpeg in Debian

In the beginning of the post, I explained the best I could what leaded to the fork and actually linked to Libav website (about page, where there is a history section), see "What went wrong" paragraph. This is unrelated to my preference to either project. I believe I added enough references in the post for people to check at the source.

I would guess that's what Siosm was pointed out to answer the question from jezuch.
