Fedora 21 delayed three weeks

At yesterday's Fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo) meeting, the release of Fedora 21 was delayed by three weeks (FESCo ticket), with the final release now scheduled for November 4. There are some problems with "test composes" of the release (creating test ISO images) that mean the deadline for the alpha release would be missed. The original plan was to delay for two weeks, but that put the freeze just before the Flock conference, so it was decided to push out an additional week.

Fedora often delayed... and that's okay

Fedora releases are often delayed by a few weeks. I believe 19 was on-time, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule.

And that's okay!! I would much rather have them delay a few weeks to fix serious problems. You can fix many problems with updates, but not everything. Waiting for perfection is the same as waiting forever, but Fedora users already have a working Fedora; we can wait.

My rule of thumb is that Fedora is always delayed by two weeks. That means Fedora 21 will be just one week late, unless there's another delay.

Does your rule of thumb account for your rule of thumb?
