Mea culpa. I wanted to say that many developers of GCC come from “Open Source” camp. But the fact that they contribute to that project does not automatically imply that they subscribe under FSF's “Free Software” is better than “Open Source” mantra. They just don't want to splinter the community.

You are correct in saying that some developers of GCC belong to “Free Software” camp, but most developers are in it just for the good tool and they accept all the RMS shanagians (when he tries to turn GCC into “weapon of mass opinion”) without much enthusiasm.
