Question: 2MB of writable memory or 2MB of XIP flash?

Can we even think of an application that justifies a 2MB kernel (or even a 1MB kernel!?) that wouldn't also take up more than 2MB?

well, if turning on networking by itself is 400K, that's 40% of your 1M kernel before you do anything else. So it's going to be pretty easy to hit that limit.
