Shouldn't a backup contain application data, including this database? You could either snarf it from there, or use that to restore after a fastboot-induced wipe.

That said, rooting a device on first arrival should really enter our minds as an issue of routine personal hygiene. You do wash newly-bought clothes before wearing them, do you?
