Well the problem is that there are other tools like for instance yum-complete-transaction or package-cleanup --cleandupes that can run amok and cause an excessively large list of packages after say a power recycle in the wrong moment and it is easy to miss a critical package in that list and say yes. The amount of such problems completely disappeared after yum added some protection for critical packages by default and I would not think we would want to go back on this.
