impact ALL Debian users and all users of all its derivatives, including Ubuntu and SteamOSSteamOS is based on Debian and already uses systemd, so Debian choosing Upstart would cause social tension. OTOH, Ubuntu has already moved away from GNOME, Debian, and everyone else, so they'd have no problem working on Upstart by themselves—which is what they already do.

In which case, I think from their perspective, Debian moving to either Upstart or systemd would be the same, so the argument employed by the comment I replied to continues to be invalid.
