Sure, but not all distros are created equal, either. Fedora places a lot of emphasis on bringing in the latest, greatest stuff, even when that comes at the price of instability. If you want promises about the API/ABI, it's probably not the place to look.

But isn't the problem here that upstream library developers are accidentally breaking their API/ABI, putting the distributors in a bind as to what they ship (bugfixes or stability) and if they are going to spend their meager resources doing the stability work that the upstream didn't do.
