Parent article: ACPI for ARM?

Have you *read* the ACPI spec for x86? Or even looked at its sheer size? Do you really believe everyone will implement it correctly?

I like the DT idea and preboot layer. This, if the Linaro guys could be convinced to agree (as opposed to hacking ACPI into their own trees locally), could be enough force to stop this nonsense before it starts. (Not to even start about EFI. It’s an Itanic thing best be kept dead. OpenBOOT (from sparc) is much nicer, anyway.)

"Have you *read* the ACPI spec for x86?"

Yes. Have you?

"Do you really believe everyone will implement it correctly?"

No, of course not. Nor do I believe everyone will implement DT correctly. The ARM world has hardly been a shining sea of well-implemented firmware in the past, and I don't think ACPI is going to miraculously fix that.
