Really? Recall that it's ability to kill and restart services and indeed, the whole underlying infrastructure (cgroups) were designed specifically for server needs, they were adopted by Gnome only later. Recall that all "big" UNIXes switched to custom-made init systems for more-or-less the same reason even if they no longer viable on desktop (indeed sales of UNIX workstations have ended) and it'll become obvious that even on servers systemd makes perfect sense.

kFreeBSD or Hurd, on other hand... have anyone ever seen them used on server in production?
