Slide from Wolfram Sang's 2013 Embedded Linux Conference Europe talk showing the patch latency for various subsystems using the different between AuthorDate and CommitDate in the patch. For the subsystems examined, most commits were patches, rather than merges. Merge commits will skew the results somewhat as they may cause patches to appear to have a larger latency.
