Subject:  [dlc-announce] Conference Program is complete; membership structure revised
Date:  01 Nov 2003 10:27:10 -0600

Hi Folks,

I'm pleased to announce that we've finalized the
program for the Boston area Desktop Linux Conference on
November 10th. We've got a great program scheduled, with
interesting talks by representatives from Bruce Perens, IBM, Novell,
CA, LTSP, and many more. One highlight will be
a talk given by Dr. Martin Echt about the conversion of his
Cardiology practice to Linux. You can read more about the
program here:

Additionally, we have spent a great deal of time reviewing
and considering the feedback everyone gave us on our proposed
membership structure. A key part of that feedback was that
our pricing on individual memberships was too high.

We spent a great deal of time wrangling over this issue, and
we have come to the conclusion that, at least initially,
we will be waiving individual membership fees.

The key driving factors behind this decision were that we
wanted to create as large a community as possible, and that
right now, the last thing we needed to spend energy and dollars
on was building an ecommerce portal so that we could capture
what would be, in the end, a relatively small amount of money.

If you have not yet provided us with feedback on our
proposed structure and would like to do so now, please
feel free to fill out our survey at this address:

Cheers,

Jeremy White
Interim Chair

I didn't take this article very well.

I've been using linux, RedHat and Mandrake exclusively
as my desktop OS for years.

I find either distribution easier to install than
Windows, and in many ways, easier to use.

I've moved 4 friends, -computer novices- to Linux so that
I could better support their computing needs. They all
use it just fine. I really don't understand this at all.
