Tor 2012 Annual Report

The Tor Project has announced the availability of its 2012 annual report. (PDF) "Tor’s daily usage continues to increase in size and diversity, bringing secure, global channels of communication and privacy tools to journalists, law enforcement, governments, human rights activists, business leaders, militaries, abuse victims and average citizens concerned about online privacy." Well, the definition of abuse is rather key to your assertion. And it will vary.

Besides, the same could certainly be said of email, the postal system, etc ad nauseum.

Tor is about safety for everybody, without exception.

Street corners may or may not be necessary, but lets not being naive, they are being abused on a mass scale by people you don't want to meet in a dark corner in the middle of the night.
