Goodbye Malcolm (Tredinnick)

The Django community mourns the passing of Malcolm Tredinnick. "Malcolm was a long-time contributor to Django, a model community member, a brilliant mind, and a friend. His contributions to Django — and to many other open source projects — are nearly impossible to enumerate. Many on the core Django team had their first patches reviewed by him; his mentorship enriched us. His consideration, patience, and dedication will always be an inspiration to us."

Anyone else seeing some eerie presentiment here? "Getting up late" just isn't news good enough to tweet, is it?

Not just presentiment: according to this page, fatigue and concentration problems are common symptoms of an aneurysm. Maybe this influence on awareness of the issue will help somebody someday.

Perhaps, perhaps not, but fatigue and concentration problems both appear frequently, often in combination, and very rarely does that signify an aneurysm. Heck, I lost Tuesday this week, and a whole week earlier this month, to just that combination of symptoms, but didn't have an aneurysm in either case (thank goodness).

The statistics of rare events are a sod that way. Even a perfectly reliable indicator isn't always useful :(

I'm shocked and saddened to hear this. I have such fond memories of hanging out with Malcolm at LCA. In addition to being a compelling speaker, he was also a genuinely nice human being. RIP mate.

Wow, I met Malcolm many years ago at dinner in boston. He was funny and clever and just plain friendly. We bounced back in forth in vaguely related projects for years and through various media sources. I'm shocked and saddened by his death. He will be missed not only as a major contributor to a lot of projects but also as a nice guy to be around and talk to.

!@#!@#@!. Very fond memories of sitting on my futon in Boston, pounding out text and code together that became the first GNOME 2.x "about" box. One of the nicest, most genuine people I've known in free software.
