Goodbye Malcolm (Tredinnick)
The Django community mourns the passing of Malcolm Tredinnick. "Malcolm was a long-time contributor to Django, a model community member, a brilliant mind, and a friend. His contributions to Django — and to many other open source projects — are nearly impossible to enumerate. Many on the core Django team had their first patches reviewed by him; his mentorship enriched us. His consideration, patience, and dedication will always be an inspiration to us."
Google taking applications for GSOC mentors
Google has announced that it is accepting applications for mentoring organizations for the 2013 Google Summer of Code program. "This year we are again encouraging experienced Google Summer of Code mentoring organizations to refer newer, smaller organizations they think could benefit from the program to apply. We hope the referral program will again bring many more new organizations to the Google Summer of Code program. Last year 47 new organizations participated." The deadline is March 29.
Python Software Foundation Reaches Settlement, Ends Trademark Dispute
The Python Software Foundation has reached a settlement in its trademark dispute with PO Box Hosting Limited trading as Veber in Europe. "The issue centered around Veber's use of the Python name for their cloud hosting services and their application for a figurative trademark incorporating the word "Python". While the Foundation retains the trademark for Python within the United States, it did not have a filing within the European Union. According to the terms of the settlement, Veber has withdrawn its trademark filing and has agreed to support the Python Software Foundation's use of the term."

Speakers include Latif Ladid, President, IPv6 Forum and Google Vice President, and Chief Internet Evangelist Vint Cerf (via video). "This year's keynote covered by Ladid and Cerf explains why the big shift to IPv6 Internet is on by default. "When a protocol is on by default," explains Ladid, "vendor readiness, network readiness, and service enablement become critical. The issue now is can IPv6 be treated like IPv4. The service providers with advanced deployment experiences have discovered that IPv6 is a totally different networking paradigm.""
