Goodbye Malcolm (Tredinnick)

The Django community mourns the passing of Malcolm Tredinnick. "Malcolm was a long-time contributor to Django, a model community member, a brilliant mind, and a friend. His contributions to Django — and to many other open source projects — are nearly impossible to enumerate. Many on the core Django team had their first patches reviewed by him; his mentorship enriched us. His consideration, patience, and dedication will always be an inspiration to us."

We hope the referral program will again bring many more new organizations to the Google Summer of Code program. Last year 47 new organizations participated." The deadline is March 29.

Python Software Foundation Reaches Settlement, Ends Trademark Dispute

The Python Software Foundation has reached a settlement in its trademark dispute with PO Box Hosting Limited trading as Veber in Europe. "The issue centered around Veber's use of the Python name for their cloud hosting services and their application for a figurative trademark incorporating the word "Python". While the Foundation retains the trademark for Python within the United States, it did not have a filing within the European Union. According to the terms of the settlement, Veber has withdrawn its trademark filing and has agreed to support the Python Software Foundation's use of the term."

The Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force (RMv6TF) has announced the keynote speakers for the North American IPv6 Summit, April 17-19 in Denver, Colorado. Speakers include Latif Ladid, President, IPv6 Forum and Google Vice President, and Chief Internet Evangelist Vint Cerf (via video). "This year's keynote covered by Ladid and Cerf explains why the big shift to IPv6 Internet is on by default. The service providers with advanced deployment experiences have discovered that IPv6 is a totally different networking paradigm.""
