Simon 0.4.0 released

Simon is a system for speech recognition; version 0.4.0 is now available. "This new version of the open source speech recognition system Simon features a whole new recognition layer, context-awareness for improved accuracy and performance, a dialog system able to hold whole conversations with the user and more."

This is a pretty exciting project, it would be amazing to run it on a server to provide speech-to-text service. I just hope it lasts long. It seems this field is pretty heavily patent infested and monopolized.

I believe Simon is modular enough that the actual recognition engine will have to deal with the patents while Simon itself can keep improving. Not that that solves the problem in countries with silly patent laws, but it helps in the majority of the sane world.

I would expect Simon to be the name of a speech synthesis system instead. Simon says...
