...and yum, both supported by FreshRPMs. I wonder how all the infrastructure pieces are going to fit together after this reshuffling?

Win, win for redhat. They are on project, they decide where it goes, they get first pick and all, for that matter, on whatever technology comes from this. Yet another way to make more money. Though nothing is wrong with that, they do it at the expense of whoever buys in to it, thinking they are getting something as stable as built from source(NO WAY JOSE). Here, they offer to sell you something the community has worked for, which is even worse than what Microsoft is doing.
