Correct me if I'm wrong, but obnam seems to be unusual in that it supports a push model with compression (deduplication), so one doesn't need to give privileged access to the backed up machine (and each backed up machine can have restricted rights on the backup server). For this reason alone I intend to try it. And of course it's well integrated into debian.

rdiff-backup supports that same model, although with no intrinsic deduplication or compression.
