Given how little attention was given to discoverability and backward compatibility, this theory seems exceedingly unlikely.

I'd love to hear any evidence to suggest that this is true. It would restore some faith in the development process.

You can run GTK+2 apps just fine in GNOME 3. Same as using gconf.

From our previous conversations you must know what I mean: backward compatibility with existing users and their workflows.

Is the same true for applications that use Gnome2 libraries (not just GTK+)?
