Parent article: Wine 1.4 released

A predictable comment, but of course it emulates Windows despite the claim otherwise in the name.

Does Linux emulate the POSIX API? Or does it implement the POSIX API?

I have been told that unless it is evaluated and confirmed by some specific agencies.. Linux emulates POSIX versus implements it :).

Linux loosely implements POSIX so I would say that it does emulate it instead. There are even times where Linux has gone against POSIX when it feels that a better implementation is available.

Like LWN, Wine is now just Wine (notice the capitalization) and not an acronym anymore.

Even when it was an acronym, it stood for Wine Is Not an Emulator.

Except when it first started.

The name Wine initially was an acronym for WINdows Emulator. Its meaning later shifted to the recursive backronym, Wine Is Not an Emulator in order to differentiate the software from other emulators. While the name sometimes appears in the forms WINE and wine, the project developers have agreed to standardize on the form Wine.
