TITLE: PyCon 2012 Announces Call For Speakers
Tutorial, Talk, and Poster applications are expected to break all
previous records, so get yours in by October 12 for the March 2012
conference.
Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) August 15, 2011 -- The PyCon staff and Python
Software Foundation announce the call for speakers for the tutorial,
conference, and poster sessions for PyCon 2012 (Santa Clara, CA, March
7-11, 2012). Proposals will be accepted through October 12, 2011 at
http://us.pycon.org/2012/speaker/, but do not wait until the last
minute. Submissions last year set a record of over 250 proposals
received, and the Program Committee expects a high number of
applications for this year as well.
Tutorials, which run two-a-day on Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March
8, are a fantastic way to bring your teaching skills to the community
through three-hour classroom-style sessions. With attendance ranging
from 20 to 60, they are a great way to share your knowledge of Python
and its supporting ecosystem in an intimate setting. Previous tutorial
topics have included web frameworks, GIS, data mining, science and
engineering, GUIs, and beginner topics on learning Python. For more
information, see the tutorial section.
Proposals for main conference talks, taking place Friday, March 9
through Sunday, March 11, are expected to break yet another record.
PyCon has played host to a wide variety of topics over the years, and
this year is no different: we're looking for your best presentations on
any range of topics in the Python world. From distributed computing to
text processing to interpreters and everything in between, we want to
hear from you. The program will include talks for attendees with a range
of experience levels, from beginner to advanced. We are also bringing
back the popular "extreme" track from 2011, for talks that look dig
deeply into advanced topics! See the speaker page for the full details.
The poster session, a science fair-style event that runs throughout the
conference afternoons, is also accepting proposals. Last year's event
was a huge success with a steady stream of attendees viewing 35 posters,
including many interactive exhibits. The poster session gives presenters
an open platform and a 4'x4' board to showcase their projects, and
attendees have a chance to mingle with the best and brightest and engage
with the presenters. Posters will be accepted on a rolling basis until
January 15, 2012, up to the estimated limit of 40 posters. More poster
session info can be found on the site
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals early, as the program
committee will be reviewing and commenting on proposals as they roll in
throughout the two month window. Early submission will allow for more
opportunities for feedback from the committee and a chance to work with
applicants to improve their proposals, thus creating the best conference
possible.
As the proposal window opens, PyCon thanks our generous and growing list
of sponsors, lead by Diamond sponsors Google and Dropbox, and Platinum
sponsors SurveyMonkey, Microsoft, Nasuni, and Gondor by Eldarion .
Thanks also go to our Gold sponsors Caktus Consulting Group, CCP Games,
Linode, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Canonical, DotCloud, Loggly,
Revolution Systems, ZeOmega, ActiveState, bitly, JetBrains, Snoball, and
Disqus. We'd also like to welcome and thank our newest silver sponsors
Olark, Bitbucket, and Bigdoor for their support. To see all of the
sponsors and what they're up to, visit our sponsor page.
