Parent article: Fedora 16 to use Btrfs as its default filesystem
The upstream community (spanning fs, dm, md and lvm developers) has been looking actively at how to make using lvm easier and more intuitive. You can do many (if not all) of the same things with lvm+ext4 or lvm+xfs today that you can do with btrfs, but it is hard to do and it exposes too many knobs and details.
Short version is that we do hope to make it *so* easy to use that users will be able to do interesting things and not have to be a storage geek to get them done with LVM or btrfs :)
