Kernel release status

The current development kernel remains 2.6.39-rc7. Linus has stated his intent to release the final 2.6.39 kernel on May 18, but that release has not happened as of this writing. Presumably he is simply waiting for the LWN Weekly Edition to be published; 2.6.39 will almost certainly be out by the time you read this.

Stable updates: there have been no stable kernel updates in the last week.

I imagine one of the perqs of being a kernel developer is knowing the inside story about this running joke :-)

in all the years I've read LWN - it has quite often fitted so that a new kernel version was released later thursday or early friday - and with LWN coming out just before that - it seemed intentional on the kernel developers part, to hold the release until after LWN was released :)
