Technology moves on and as we look at ways to spread Ubuntu further, a CD distribution programme, especially one of that size and delivered in that way, makes less sense. The company will also be launching a free online trial for Ubuntu.

And still, I have no idea what a "free online trial for Ubuntu" could be. Presumably, as it's a trial, it's some strange new money-making strategy.
I'm all for Canonical transitioning into a sustainable business model, but they have historically not been very good at doing so in a way that respects freedom (c.f. their partly closed cloud stuff).
