I'm delighted to read this, as the Summer of Code program has been a huge success for the Nmap Project. We have participated in all of the previous six summers, and it has brought numerous talented developers into the fold (examples). I recommend this program to any serious open source project, and I commend Google for putting millions of dollars into the open source ecosystem this way.

I do kind of wish Google would increased the stipends by 25% rather than increasing the number of funded slots. In many expensive parts of the world, it can be hard to live for 3 months on $5,000. And that is only a fraction of what talented programmers can make in many corporate internship programs.
