The "checking dynamically and falling back to our own" is a lot of work, that is hard to check if it works right (i.e., will be broken most of the time), and has all the downsides (bloat, incompatibilities, security risks) than just bundling libraries for very little gain.

I meant checking that the library is exactly the same byte for byte, not that it merely has the same name and version number.

So nobody can fix even minor problems in the library, or use a different compiler, or...
