Sigh. I had actually fixed it properly, but something went weird somewhere. Fixed for real now.

And hey, we're not stuck in US-ASCII - we can do full Latin1! :) UTF8 will happen sometime - trust me, we really want it - but there's a lot that has to happen to get there.

Been asked before but can't hurt to ask again. Can we get the lwn.net code published? If you are worried about the payment gateway stuff, that can wait.

It remains on the list. We made some progress in that direction, actually - went through the code auditing and defending against a potential security issue that I was concerned about, for example. The code is more releasable than it was before.

It's really just a matter of time. As long as we're running flat out just to keep the site going, it's hard to do the work for a code release. But, like I said, we want it to happen. 2011 is not entirely out of the question.

This is one of the pitfalls of being a website with a long history. Most new websites will just use UTF-8 by default everywhere. Things were not as simple last century.
