Copyright assignment gives the assigned more power.

Whether thats a good or bad thing depends on the future actions of the person/company.

Assigning copyrights to a non-profit organization seems pretty reasonable to me.

there's nothing inherent in being a non-profit organization that makes it 'good'

there are good non-profit organizations, and bad non-profit organizations.

it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the RIAA and BSA on non-profits for example.
