Linux Foundation CTO leaves for Google (internetnews.com)

internetnews.com covers Ted Ts'o's change of jobs. "Ted [Ts'o], the chief technology officer of the Linux Foundation, has moved on to start a new career at Google. [Ts'o] had been the CTO at the Linux Foundation for the past two years and as such, the move was not unexpected. "Ted's fellowship at the Linux Foundation was a two-year assignment and was completed in December," Jim Zemlin, executive director, the Linux Foundation said in an email sent to InternetNews.com. "It is similar to the fellowships held by Andrew Morton, Andrew Tridgell and Markus Rex.""

Given that Google are migrating to ext4 from ext2, this is some of the least surprising news I've read in some time. :)

ext2? I would imagine they don't keep much on local disks. Must be nice :)

They keep everything on local disks (who would they get remote disks from? AFAICT they have more storage than anyone else in the world).

But they do data replication at the machine level, so they don't care about journalling/raid/whatever *within* a machine -- it's useless overhead to them.

Sounds like an excellent application for ext4.

I'd assumed that like Tridge, Ted was "on loan" from IBM.
