Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)
In any case, McBride is obviously no adamant Open Source booster. If anything, he's been so steeped in competition based on proprietary, patented, copyrighted, and trademarked products that I doubt he can think of any other way to do things."

And not much about anything else.... It is interesting to note that Lindows made an agreement with SCO for this supposed "IP" some time ago. But they somehow just recently discovered this "IP" problem? I am very interesed as to exactly when did SCO shake down Lindows? Might I humbly suggest that the Lindows folks be issued a sopeona to testify in this regard. Should they have made an agreement prior to what SCO "claims" they became aware of these purported violations they not only loose their case but could face criminal prosecution for fraud as a result of manipulating this information with criminal intent. In the eyes of the Courts World over, omission and lies equate to the same thing.

Sorry, but the story is lame. You could look at just about any tech company's CEO's resume and find something to gripe about. I gather that the previous CEO of IBM wasn't all that big on open source software either... I care as much about that as I care about Darl's proprietary background. That information plus $2.00 will get you a small cup of Breakfast Blend at Starbucks. Here's a simple fact: there hasn't been enough significant "meat" lately in the SCO/IBM case to give Linux trade reporters anything worth a damn to report. Sure, the Novell stuff was exciting for a few days, but even that's yesterday's news. When Linux trade folks have nothing better to report on than a resume of a CEO I get bored and yawn. I don't care to seek out drama where drama doesn't exist, and as far as I'm concerned there's no drama (nor anything insightful) in Darl's resume. He's been an exec in companies that sell proprietary software. Wow, what a revelation. Wake me up when the lawsuit kicks in...

Enough with all the SCO stories already. One or two a week should be enough.

Going back to the grand old year of 2001, Lindows entered into an agreement SCO's disagreement is no small matter. If the Lindows/SCO agreement remains As such I reiterate: Why would Lindows enter in to an agreement in 2001 that gives them "carte blanche to distribute the Linux operating system"?

Instead, we get something that might easily have been written by some adolescent Anonymous Coward over at Slashdot (except for the corrected spelling errors). What does McBride's rather standard resume have to do with the validity of SCO's claim? If the best defense against SCO is a long-winded diatribe against McBride because he's a "suit", Linux is in trouble.

There's a middle school within walking distance of my place. If I really wanted to listen to testosterone-plagued 14-year old boys, I'd go there. Instead I see equivalent nonsense spouted by open source advocates all over the web. Nothing Limo wrote in that piece shed any light on the lawsuit. It was just a few column inches of name calling. Time for some people to grow up.

Why? I happen to like the rants, name calling etc.. as it pertains to SCO and specifically "Darl" as it makes me feel good to know I'm not the only one who wants to piss on SCOs grave. So if you are tired of "testosterone-plagued 14-year old boys" and hanging out at the "middle school within walking distance of your place", might I humbly suggest that you cultivate more age appropriate interests!

It's not a troll. This crap is boring, repetitive, and irrelevant. There's nothing that end users like us can do about it; It's between SCO and IBM. Until it gets to trial it's just giving SCO an audience that they don't deserve.Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)

with SCO, née Caldera, whereby SCO would provide technical assistance to Lindows and
Lindows would provide unnamed "considerations" for SCO. Lindows maintains that
this agreement gives it carte blanche to distribute the Linux operating system.
SCO, predictably, disagrees.
valid, the implications to SCO are profound. Coupled with the intent of the GNU
Public License (GPL), of which Lindows is a participant, SCO could find it very
difficult to claim ownership of the allegedly stolen UNIX source code.
SCO only found the supposed violations in the beginning of 2002. Would those be coverred by a 2001 agreement?Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)

Predictably? I think it's stupid to treat customers like that. Does anybody see the irony in the words "Worry Free Software" prominently placed on the SCO website?

Because they were running the same scam then (Claiming the kernel had their IP) but with small players like Lindows. As such their assertion that they "just discovered this alleged IP infringement is pure hogwash.
It would be nice to see some mature and reasoned comment on SCO's suit carried somewhere in the Linux press, but this piece isn't it.Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)

Nope, Petegn, I don't work for MS. I've been a Linux user since the mid-90's, but I've just had my fill of vacuous rants posing as commentary and journalism about this SCO thing. Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)

Sending LWN $60/year was my idea of "cultivating more age appropriate interests". The only reason I did that was because LWN didn't stoop to the same level as the Slashdots, pclinuxonline.com's, etc. Darl McBride doesn't understand Linux (NewsForge)

Speaking of adolescent Anonymous Coward are you erat or eloop?
I (erat) am not enloop, and you are only validating what both of us are saying with responses like the one above.
