WIN4LIN WORKSTATION EDITION 5.0 EXTENDS ABILITY TO BRIDGE WINDOWS USERS TO
LINUX
State of the Art Solution for Bringing Novell, DirectX, ERP and Other
Enterprise Applications to Linux

20 May 2003

Austin, TX – NeTraverse today announced immediate availability of the next
version of the award winning Win4Lin Workstation product. Version 5.0
extends the ability of Win4Lin to help users painlessly bridge from legacy
Windows environments to Linux and Open Source infrastructure models.

2003 has been dubbed the Year of the Linux Desktop by a number of analysts
and Win4Lin is a critical part of a successful migration path for many
desktop Linux users. The momentum of Linux over the past few years have
brought an increasingly large number of users to seriously consider Linux
and server-based computing models as an alternative to aging and expensive
Windows desktop model. Win4Lin is the best way to preserve your past
investment while moving forward with your desktop computing strategy.

Win4Lin is the best way to run applications on Windows to Linux because of
efficient resource use and integration with Linux host services. Win4Lin
runs a copy of Windows as a Linux process. This means that Win4Lin runs in
shared memory, lives in the Linux file system and utilizes the Linux caching
and other host services. Win4Lin is the perfect combination of native Linux
environment and host services together with true Windows compatibly and
support for the widest range of Windows applications. Not only does Win4Lin
provide an unsurpassed degree of fidelity in running Office and Internet
Explorer, but also in running third party Windows applications like
Peoplesoft, SAP and Seibel clients – best of all, Win4Lin runs custom Visual
Basic and C++ applications with no modification.

"Win4Lin Workstation Edition 5.0 marks the expansion of Win4Lin beyond core
application support to deliver value to a wider community not previously
addressed", said James P. Curtin, president and CEO of NeTraverse. "This
release is critical to an increasing number of users bound by that one
legacy dependency keeping them from moving to Linux."

Version 5.0 extends the Win4Lin capabilities by including Novell client
support, basic DirectX support Winsock 2 support and enhanced sound support,
as well as considerable enhancements to performance, stability and
reliability.

Novell client support, including support for authenticated connections, is a
feature in high demand from a broad constituency of users, especially those
dealing with aging legacy environments. Support for Novell clients makes
Win4Lin and ideal choice for those users considering alternatives to Windows
XP upgrades. Linux and Open Source environments must balance the need for
quickly moving to native open source alternatives against the need for
responsible, efficient and pain-free migration that comes from co-existence
with certain legacy Windows applications.

Direct X support is being introduced to provide full capabilities for
applications like Real Player and Media Player.

Winsock 2 capabilities increase the integration of Windows networking
resources under a single Linux IP address this is a leap forward in robust
networking options for Win4Lin users with low resource utilization.
