I've been using Linux on my desktop for years and wouldn't (voluntarily) go back to Windows. It's true that I'm a techie, but what I've done with Linux that requires techie skills most users wouldn't need to do. I gave a presentation on this subject to the Columbus (Ohio) Computer Society. IMHO, the reasons that the use of Linux on the desktop not more widespread are (1) (the last time I looked) the big distributor's of PCs (Gateway and Dell) do not distribute Linux machines and (2) it's difficult to get companies to spend $$ advertising free software.

A problem that Linux users have to deal with is companies that don't support Linux. Wine is attempting to deal with this problem, but it doesn't appear to be completely successful. If Linux had a larger share of the market, these companies would be "forced" to support it.

I welcome Red Hat's consideration of this market.
