Parent article: LPC: Booting Linux in five seconds

Providing its not to cold, I can turn ignition to start, fire up the cylinders put car in gear put foot on the gas, let clutch out in 4 seconds on a good day.

Why are computers so slow at starting, maybe it takes them a while to warm up and get those electrons flowing.

Thank you for completing this discussion by providing the obligatory
Stupid Car Analogy(TM). (It is well known that all computing discussions
must eventually include a stupid and inappropriate analogy to the
automobile.)

Well, using analogies is like two eggs sunny-side-up, flying through space.
