ActiveState & O'Reilly Deepen Partnership: Safari Electronic Reference
Library added to ASPN

VANCOUVER, BC - March 24, 2003 - ActiveState Corp. and O'Reilly & Associates
today announced the launch of Safari Bookshelf, a leading technical
reference library, now accessible within the redesigned ActiveState
Programmer Network (ASPN) website. Safari is available with ActiveState's
ASPN Perl and ASPN Tcl programming bundles, adding a broad range of online
books to the only comprehensive collections of Perl and Tcl tools and
resources.

ASPN Perl and ASPN Tcl equip programmers with professional tools and a
wealth of technical content such as: code archives, news feeds, mailing
lists, cookbook recipes, and now Safari Bookshelf, all integrated within a
centralized online, searchable repository.

Safari Books Online is a joint venture between the industry's leading IT
publishers The Pearson Technology Group and O'Reilly & Associates. Safari
Bookshelf is a fully searchable electronic reference library that houses the
full text of more than 1,300 leading technical books from O'Reilly,
Addison-Wesley, New Riders and many other trusted publishers. Users can
drill down into the exact chapter and section of a book to quickly pinpoint
examples and code samples just as they appear in the printed book.

"ActiveState's industrial-strength programming software and Safari's deep
technical library are a potent combination for working developers who need
information as they code," said Tim O'Reilly, CEO of O'Reilly & Associates.
"The ASPN bundles are like a specialized Google for Perl and Tcl
developers."

"As a resident Safari fan, I can see how the seamless integration of
Safari's extensive technical content within the revamped ASPN will provide a
big leg up for programmers," said Gurusamy Sarathy, Senior Developer,
ActiveState. "Members can now bookmark and annotate this content, even
cut-and-paste the code directly into their programs, saving time and
significantly improving their ability to whip up code that works. Safari
gives a whole new meaning to writing code by the book."

"I've been hooked on the tools in ASPN Perl for a couple years, using Komodo
to develop financial information processing systems and to wrangle ugly
chunks of code," said Eric Gjerde, IT Manager, Northland Securities, Inc.
"ASPN Perl was already a great source of information, and Safari Bookshelf
makes it even more valuable, saving me money and hassle. The powerful
search capabilities and integration with the ASPN site are a huge help in my
work."

Safari upgrades are available free of charge to recent ASPN Perl and ASPN
Tcl customers. Licenses for ASPN Perl and ASPN Tcl are $495. Additional
information, free 21-day trial licenses, and educational licenses are at
