This is slightly incorrect.

The bytecode is used to perform customized hinting, the process of aligning the features of
the font to the pixel grid.

This is separate issue from the antialiasing itself, although in most cases the customized
hinting happens to reduce visible antialising, because perfectly aligned horizontal or
vertical stems just plain do not need any antialiasing.
