I really wish people would look beyond the "best distro" idea. A one-size-fits-all approach is not the way to go. If you don't believe me, take a look at the behemoth Windows XP.

Many poeple have specific needs, and different distributions are available to fit those needs. It is folly to argue over who has the best method, because for every advantage, I promise you I can name at least one disadvantage.

Quite right - that's why Gentoo is really the best distro, because it isn't a distro at all ;-) It's a roll-your-own so you create exactly the distro you want, with nothing that you don't want, using beautifully engineered tools.

Anyway, to get back to the point, I can't wait for Hammer to really hit the market. AMD's future rides on this! They deserve to succeed, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on an Athlon64 just as soon as I can afford to. With Mandrake and SuSE both ready with distros, hopefully the others will soon follow.

Yours is the third "gentoo is best" post I've had replied to me this week.

Gentoo has its fair share of problems, which gentoo users do not want to recognize.
