Foresight Linux 1.3 released!

Timed to be released with GNOME 2.18.2, the Foresight Linux team is
happy and proud to announce the release of Foresight Linux 1.3.

Foresight Linux continues to build on it's success of releasing a
stable Linux distribution with the latest software, including GNOME
and applications such as Banshee for music management, F-Spot for
photo management, Pidgin and Ekiga for internet communication and
OpenOffice.org for productivity and office applications. Providing the
latest versions of applications gives our users access to the latest
bug fixes, and the use of Conary as a package manager makes it easy
for users to update the software on their desktop.

Foresight is dedicated to being a leading GNOME distribution with a
strong focus on it's users. This focus includes providing innovative
applications such as the ones listed above, friendly and helpful user
support in IRC, the continued building of documentation in the
Foresight Wiki and the publishing of the Foresight Linux Newsletter.

New Features

GNOME: This is the third Foresight Linux release with GNOME 2.18
(after 2.18.0 & 2.18.1), and contains minor fixes and improvements.

Desktop Search: With Beagle 0.2.17 and tweaked for Foresight Linux, we
continue to improve the ability to search your computer.

Web browsing: We have upgraded Epiphany web browser to version 2.18.2.

First Boot Process: The outdated Firstboot mechanism has been replaced
by our modified version of autoconfig from Knoppix to configure X.Org,
and creating the first user is done by Firstrun. This will make it
even easier for users to install Foresight.

Chat: ... with Pidgin (formerly known as GAIM) updated to version
2.0.1. Pidgin supports multiple chat protocols such as Jabber, MSN,
AIM, ICQ, IRC and more.

HAL: was updated to 0.5.9. HAL, the Hardware Abstraction Layer, has
updates for a number of devices. This should make Foresight compatible
with more peripherals.

X.Org 7.2: The new graphical server makes it easier for users by
automatically installing monitors and video cards without editing
configuration files.

The latest Compiz 3D window manager, installed by default on Foresight Linux

Package Manager: The Conary package manager has been updated to the
latest version, 1.2.16. Conary is a full featured distributed package
manager similar to RPM or dpkg, featuring the ability to install
software, manage dependencies and even rollback to previously
installed versions.

Important Bugfixes:

    * More Digital Cameras are now supported to import (issue #143, issue #247 )
    * Gtk is now localized. This means that dialogs like printing and
file opening are now available in your local language.

The future

Developers are hard at work on Foresight Linux 2.0, which is to be
released later this summer. Based on rPath Linux 2.0, Foresight 2.0
will feature a x86_64 build for the first time, in addition to a x86
build, as well as a smaller installation size, and a graphical user
interface for Conary, Foresight Linux's package manager.

Post Installation Suggestions

It is recommended to run "sudo conary updateall" after a fresh install
to get the newest changesets. Be informed that this can take up to 15
minutes the first time you run updateall. If you have any questions
please visit our website at http://www.foresightlinux.com/. Help and
Frequently Asked Questions can be found inside the wiki. If you need
any further assistance do not hesitate to ask in our IRC channel
#foresight at Freenode or in the forums.
