Isn't it a bit odd even for him to announce to the world as a press release to all major Linux news sites that he changes the distribution on his machine? Not even the real hackers, who didn't have to hijack a hacker's dictionary just to label themselves hackers, does that.

I could be a little more forgiving of ESR's cult of personality if he actually had contributed something useful in the last 10 years. Fedora is pretty damn transparent and you can go fix the damn code. CatB was a nice read back in the 20th century, what's new? What have you done for us lately? Maybe right edition 2 or something, Eric, things are a bit different now. Make youself useful some how.

I debated with myself for some time before posting it. In the end I decided people were going to be talking about anyway, so I might as well put it up.

That was the part I admired. It wouldn't be on here if he didn't CC lwn. It's a bummer Alan's a-bomb response wasn't CCed to everybody too.

FWIW, we read the Fedora lists, like we read those of a number of other distributions. We would have seen Eric's note anyway.

The Art of Unix Programming (2003) is actually quite good and well worth reading.ESR's goodbye note
