I agree with you. That said, I was a long-time user of RedHat 4.2; I don't upgrade to 5.x until late 1998 or early 1999. Of course, a lot of people were using 4.2 for a long time because 5.x had a lot of bugs from the difficult GlibC transition.
I think we have established that people want RedHat to continue supporting their OSes for more than a year. You have demonstrated that people do not want to maintain older code without getting paid. We have not yet established that people are willing to give RedHat enough money so that RedHat will be able to do this.
For all of the people complaining about this policy: How much are you willing to pay for RedHat to continue providing updates?
