Microsoft open to more deals like Novell Linux one (TechSpot.com)

TechSpot.com suggests that Microsoft may be willing to get involved in more Linux support deals. "What is all of this about? Well, Steve Ballmer (Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft since January 2000) believes that Microsoft will have to change its business model in order to continue to prosper. "The next frontier for us is to embrace a new business model. And if we embrace it well and that business model is subscription and advertising, where we will be a market leader. If we do not embrace it well there will be issues.""

"Be a shame if sumtin happened to it."

It seems to me that Microsoft's main business model, extortion, isn't changing. Only they've decided that they need more victims.

Personally I think they should side up with Debian.

The resulting mailing list chaos should then grind Microsoft's servers to a hault causing them to just give up producing software for good and search for something more productive then endless licensing arguements... like sniffing flowers.

Err.. or something like that.

embrace huh?

Is that as in being embraced by a 800 lb gorilla?

Hmmm....

Is that "embrace" as in: "Embrace, Extend, Exterminate"?

Maybe it's 'embrace', like a anaconda 'embracing' a small warm blooded mammal.

They picked a good company to start with. 2 of my favorite programs - SoundTracker and CheeseTracker - don't run on Suse 10.1.

"Support deals" in a give-me-a-per-seat-piece-of-your-pie-and-get-nothing-in-return kind of sense?
This LWN article is seriously missing some quote signs ;-)

The day they start selling MS Office for Linux is the day I might just about believe that the embrace in question might be a respectful one. (Although it would be even better if what it meant was that OpenOffice was eating their lunch and they couldn't do anything about it other than compete fairly).
