LVL7 and Wind River Strike Linux Partnership
LVL7 designates Wind River as its preferred OS supplier;
LVL7 becomes Wind River Platform Partner
Research Triangle Park, NC (August 22, 2006) - LVL7 Systems, Inc., the
leading provider of production-ready networking software, today
announced its commitment to support the Wind River(r) Platform for
Network Equipment, Linux Edition. The complementary solution of LVL7's
FASTPATH(r) software combined with Wind River's Linux-based device
software platforms provides a shared customer base of networking OEMs
(original equipment manufacturers) with solid support for high-end
network devices spanning the enterprise and telecom market sectors.
Future 2.6 Linux-based releases of the LVL7's FASTPATH software will be
developed, tested, and certified using Wind River's platform as the core
device software operating system (OS). Because Wind River VxWorks is the
other dominant OS chosen by OEMs in FASTPATH-powered projects, the Linux
commitment makes Wind River the preferred OS supplier for LVL7's product
activities.
"The fundamental architecture of FASTPATH software is compatible with
multiple operating systems, but focusing our ongoing development and
integration activities toward a single OS supplier who addresses both
Linux and VxWorks is a smart move for LVL7 and our manufacturing
customers," said Dave King, LVL7's vice president of marketing and
strategy. "We both benefit from a stronger, more strategic relationship
with a primary partner like Wind River. Their products, development
tools, and quality have a favorable and well-deserved reputation across
the Linux community and the industry at large."
As always, OEM customer preference remains the driving factor in OS
decisions for Ethernet systems and devices; however, LVL7 believes
manufacturers will favor its Linux decision.
"RadiSys leverages FASTPATH as the core networking software for switch
modules in our PromentumTM family of ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing
Architecture) products," said Venkataraman Prasannan, RadiSys' senior
director AdvancedTCA PLM. "Since our company is already a Wind River
Linux user and Partner, we see strong synergy behind LVL7's commitment."
Based on the LVL7's Linux commitment, Wind River has invited LVL7 to
join its ecosystem program of hardware and software companies as a
Platform Partner, recognizing LVL7 as a top tier industry supplier.
Program activities will enable the two companies to build a closer
relationship and achieve better alignment on technologies, development
and marketing roadmaps, and product integration efforts - all of which
benefit mutual OEM customers.
"We're delighted with LVL7's commitment to Wind River technology and
pleased to build on the relationship we've established over the past
several years," said Glenn Seiler, Linux product line manager at Wind
River. "The strategic alignment between our two companies - with LVL7's
efforts in production-ready networking software and Wind River's
leadership in Device Software Optimization - is pointed toward the same
goal of making customers successful with proven solutions that reduce
time-to-market schedules. That complementary focus says a lot about the
strength of our relationship and the future potential for working more
closely together."
The first FASTPATH software release based on the new Linux kernel from
Wind River will be the 4.5 version scheduled to be introduced in the
second quarter of next year.
