I don't know about other distributions, but as chronicled on the Debian TeX mailing list, Debian developers have been working on packaging TeX Live, in close collaboration with the upstream maintainers, for some time.

Debian developers have been working on packaging TeX Live, in close collaboration with the upstream maintainers, for some time.
I hope other Linux distros follow Debian's excellent lead, and cooperate together. The more standardised the list of LaTeX packages is, the greater the usefulness of LaTeX.
