I really wish LWN had a blacklist option so people could choose to entirely ignore comments from known trolls/crackpots.

(Hint, hint... ;))

I've never been sure if he is or not. His posts have never been coherent enough to really tell if he is a troll, a crackpot, or none of the above. A blacklist may not be necessary. A simple limit on the number of spelling and grammar errors may suffice.

a solution can be a button to report bad posts (as in ubuntuforums.org)

Either he's a crackpot of great intensity, or he's a troll.

Personally I'm inclining to the trolldom opinion: his outbreak of racism was being a bit too obvious.

Sorry, it may not have been entirely clear what I meant - I was talking about a personal blacklist associated with each account so that people could decide that they'd want to screen out comments made by certain others when logged in (similar to the "ignore" feature in various bulletin board systems, or the "foe" concept on Slashdot), nothing more.

Just to clarify things... :)

A long time ago, this was simply called a KILL-file. See http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/K/kill-file.html

Man, I feel like I'm getting old. :-)

Forget the "blacklist" button. How about a "translate this" button?

Keep in mind that he could just be functionally illiterate. Or he could have a brain imbalance in need of treatment. We don't really know.

One would first have to identify/write a grammer for this particular dialect of english, which might prove impossible.

There may not be much to say on the topic yet. Who is in charge is less important than what actual policy changes take place. And there has been no time for the new CEO to do anything.

Personally, I think Novell needs to take a long hard look at how well hybrid OSS/Proprietary business models have worked for Linux companies in the past. Caldera being a notable example.

If Novell wants a Novell-sized piece of the pie, I think they are going to have to out-Redhat Redhat. And I don't think their old school corporate culture is capable of comprehending, let alone executing, a plan to achieve that.

Well... you asked! ;-)
