Battling DRM outside Seattle WinHEC conference (NewsForge)
As chilly Seattle rain drifted down, the 'DRM Elimination Crew' marched back and forth in their suits, handing out brochures like 'Microsoft Vista - DRM'd and Defective By Design,' 'DRM IS Digital Restrictions Management,' and 'Restricting you the User,' to curious passers-by."

Demonstrations are very useful. You will meet a lot of other people you haven't seen IRL yet and it's a powerful tool if you use it in the right way. I'm sure that the rejection of the EU's software patent directive is partly because of all the demonstrations that were organised.

Demonstrations and outreach like this are good but often thankless tasks.
It is important that someone shamelessly make a fool out of themselves, so that the issue is more widely known.Battling DRM outside Seattle WinHEC conference (NewsForge)

If this had been a protest at a WTO conference those people would have gotten their heads beaten in by cops. Many cities have passed anti-mask ordinances banning the use of scarves or masks or hazmat helmets or whatever, targeting protestors. Luckily for them this is a small, low-key event so apparently the police didn't care.Battling DRM outside Seattle WinHEC conference (NewsForge)
